The Malaysian Tigers has arrived in the Philippines three days ago for the scheduled international friendly match tomorrow February 29, 2012. The National Team of Malaysia is one of the toughest rival that will be face by the Philippine Azkals.

PBDKT T-Team halted their losing streak of three consecutive matches last night with a 2-0 win over Super League leaders, Perak at the Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shah Stadium in Kuala Terengganu. The result saw The Buffaloes relinquishing their position to Kelantan who defeated Terengganu 2-1 in the 'East Coast Derby' played at the Sultan Mohamad IV Stadium in Kota Bharu.

T-Team who had done away with the service of the under-performing Zachariah Simukonda started aggressively in front of a few hundred spectators who decided to come to the stadium instead of watching the 'live' telecast of the 'East Coast Derby'.

Perak did not offer much in their play. Most of the time they would fire long balls into the opponent's area, trying to find the tall Lazar Popovic who would bring his team-mates into play with the second ball. They were also seen relying on Michal Kubala to produce his long distance shooting in order to breach the T-Team defence.

The home side seemed comfortable in neutralizing these threats with Bojan Petric being commanding in defence with Norfazly Alias. After a scoreless first half, it took only eleven minutes for the stale-mate to be broken.

T-Team forced a series of corners and from of of these set-pieces saw Petric heading home from close range after the initial header by Faiz Subri was blocked on the line by a Perak player. It was the Bosnian first competitive goal in Malaysia.

Perak should have been more aggressive after going a goal down but their lack of creativity proved to be their downfall. Then two minutes from time, referee Suhaizi Shukri awarded a rather soft penalty to T-Team after Perak defender, Muhamad Shahrom was jusdged to have brought down T-Team substitute, Khairul Izwan inside the penalty area.

Skipper Zairo Anuar Zalani stepped up and had no problem beating Nasril Nourdin to score his seventh goal of the season, keeping him on top of the goal-scorers' charts. His team meanwhile climbed one spot to sixth.

Meanwhile in Kota Bharu, the home fans had to wait until the 37th minute before seeing their team going ahead. Even then Norshahrul Idlan Talaha's goal had a large slice of luck going with it as his shot was going away from goal until it hit Terengganu skipper Mazuki Yusof in the abdomen and went into the net, with Sharbinee Allawee already committed.

Then in the 52nd minute The Stags went two goals ahead went a quick counter-attack saw the ball being delivered into the penalty area where Indra Putra Mahyuddin headed the cross into the path of his skipper, Badhri Radzi who had the simple task of heading the ball into the net.

The Turtles tried to stage a fightback but could only score as the match went into stoppage time when Ashaari Shamsuddin's side-footed effort went in off the bar, spoiling Khairul Fahmi's effort to keep a clean sheet against the 'Old Enemy'.

At the Jalan Besar Stadium in Singapore, Lions XII went up to fourth after defeating Negeri Sembilan 3-1. Two goals by their skipper, Shahril Ishak in the 31st and 60th minutes sandwiched Shahdan Sulaiman's strike in the 50th minute. Mohamad Firdaus Azizul replied for The Deers in the 90th minute.

Perhaps the night's biggest upset was Selangor 2-0 loss against PKNS FC at the MBPJ Stadium in Kelana Jaya. It was The Red Giants' second defeat of the season while goals from former Selangor player, Rudie Ramlie on the half hour mark and Helmi Remeli on the hour mark saw the club side registering their first win of the season.

In Kuching, Sarawak used their home advantage to beat Felda United 2-1. It was The Crocs second win of the season. Goals from Vedran Muratovic and Asri Chuchu won them the match despite Firdaus Faudzi reducing the deficit for The Settlers.

Home advantage did not come into the picture when Kuala Lumpur took on Kedah at the Hang Jebat Stadium in Melaka. The City Boys remained the only team without a win this season when Johor FC beat them 2-0. Former T-team striker, Haris Safwan Kamal opened his account for The Bees in the sixth minute before Jasazrin Jamaluddin confirmed all three points seven minutes from time.

...The Turtle Derby

Terengganu moved to second place in the Super League after winning their 'Turtle' derby encounter with PBDKT T-Team at the Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shah Stadium last night. The Turtles' new striker, Francis Doe scored twice as he helped his team coming back from being a goal down early in the match to win 2-1.

T-Team, sporting a new red away shirt started aggressively in front of a near full Sultan Ismail and were rewarded when they were awarded a penalty in the 12th minute when Terengganu goalkeeper brought down T-Team striker, Zachariah Simukonda in the penalty box. The goalkeeper was flashed the yellow card instead of red as the ball was moving away from goal.

Skipper Zairo Anuar who already scored three goals this season stepped up and sent Sharbinee the wrong way. However, an encroachment by a T-Team player caused the penalty to be retaken. This time, Sharbinee went the right way but the sheer power in Zairo's effort was enough to beat his despairing dive.

Four minutes later, disaster struck for Yunus Alif's boys when Terengganu forward, Ashaari Shamsuddin found himself clear with just Iqbal Suhaimi in the T-Team goal to beat. However, he was brought down inside the box by defender Shahril Faizal.

T-Team players felt aggrieved when the referee flashed the red card instead of yellow to the full-back, feeling that it should have been the case too with Sharbinee earlier. However, the official's decision stood and Doe stepped up to send Iqbal the wrong way and level the score.

The match was finally balanced with both teams adopting good passing game. Faiz Subri caused a lot of problems for the Terengganu defence with his run which resulted in fouls around the penalty area. However none of these dead-ball situations led to another goal for the 'away' side.

Instead it was Doe who made the most of the chance that came his way. Iqbal saved with his trailing leg when the Liberian broke through in the 53rd minute but seven minutes later in an almost the same situation he notched the winner for Terengganu.

The defeat saw T-Team dropped to fourth, level on points with Negeri Sembilan but having a better goal difference. The Malaysia Cup champions defeated Felda United 1-0 in Paroi. Perak moved up to third after they won 1-0 in Pasir Gudang against Johor FC who are still looking for their first point at home this season.

Lions XII also registered a 1-0 away win. Their first away win saw them moving up to sixth, leapt-frogging Selangor who were held to a scoreless draw by Sarawak. Kuala Lumpur remained at the bottom of the pile after a 1-1 draw against PKNS FC while Kelantan, having won their away match in Alor Setar 3-0 against Kedah yesterday remained on top.

Malaysia Football News: Terengganu held by PKNS in Super League

Posted: 10 Feb 2012 12:19 AM PST

Terengganu have themselves to blame for missing out on the chance to top the Super League standings after they could only manage a disappointing 1-1 draw against struggling PKNS FC in Kuala Terengganu on Wednesday.

The Turtles had a good chance to go top after leaders Kelantan dropped points when Sabah held them to a goalless draw in Kota Kinabalu.

The slip-ups by Terengganu and Kelantan allowed Perak to leap frogged to the summit on 15 points. Kelantan dropped a rung to second spot on 14 points while Terengganu with a point fewer are third.

Coach Mat Zan Mat Aris said the team had no one to blame but themselves.

"We employed the wrong strategy by placing certain players in the wrong position. We were in control of the match until I substituted Joseph Kalang Tie in the second half," he said adding that the Sarawakian winger along with Mohd Ashaari Shamsuddin were the team's midfield engine.

During the 1-1 stalemate at the Sultan Ismail Stadium, on-form striker Francis Doe broke the deadlock in the 38th minute by calmly collecting Joseph's cross to slot the ball home. However, PKNS draw level through a Rudie Ramli's glancing header from a cross in the 46th minute.

The Turtles were more superior but strikers Doe, Abdul Manaf Mamat and Abdul Hadi Yahya failed to convert the chances to earn the team a win over their Klang Valley opponent.

Mat Zan had hoped that a win over PKNS would bolster their confidence ahead of Saturday's East Coast Derby against Kelantan but it was not to be.

"I will make a major reshuffle for the match against Kelantan. We have to rethink our strategy as the tie against the Red Warriors will be tricky and above all, emotional," he said.

Meanwhile PKNS assistant coach Anuar Abu Bakar was not perturbed with his team's growing reputation as the draw experts, having drawn five of their six matches played.

"It is a big coup to escape with a point against a strong team like Terengganu. It is a positive for the players but I really felt we could have won as the players were playing their hearts out," he said.
